Replacement Battery for Game Boy Advance SP
The weakest point in all consoles, without exception, is the batteries. At best, over time, they lose their capacity and fail, and at worst, they swell or even explode.
Of course, you can assemble your own battery using Makho's plates or, for example, replace the internals of the original battery. But the problem is that Makho's plates can no longer be ordered to Russia, and the standard Game Boy Advance SP battery sometimes cannot be modified, for example, if it is entirely plastic. What to do in these cases?
You can buy a ready-made solution on AliExpress.
Where to Buy?
Testing
I bought such a battery to test it. On AliExpress, many complain that the battery capacity does not match the stated one. If you look closely, you can see that the supposed capacity is 850 mAh.
Testing was conducted on a special, almost factory-like setup.
It turned out that it only has 245 mAh. After testing the console in the Aging Test Cartridge program, the console's runtime was determined. The Game Boy Advance SP AGS-101 worked for 5 hours and 11 minutes at minimum brightness and without sound.
In principle, this is a decent runtime, and it will be enough for some people.
Modifying the Battery to Make It Better
But the most interesting part is not this. If you are not satisfied with its actual capacity of 200-300 mAh, you can disassemble this battery and replace its internals.
If you remove the green sticker (it comes off very easily), you can see that the battery consists of 4 parts:
1. Sticker;
2. Plastic battery casing;
3. Battery;
4. A plate soldered to the battery.
You need to cut off the plate and solder another battery with a normal capacity in its place.
Note that you need a battery labeled 603048. These are its dimensions, and they are perfect for replacement.
Next, insert the battery into the plastic frame.
And put the sticker back in place.
In the end, you get a nice battery with a large capacity – 850 mAh. In the Aging Test Cartridge program, the console worked for a record 17 hours and 08 minutes!
