Here are two useful finds for original Nintendo hardware.

For Nintendo DS: DSPico flash cartridge with USB-C.

For Game Boy Advance SP: an IPS-ready eXtremeRate replacement shell.

New Video

Friends, there's a new video on our YouTube channel: Nintendo DS: Viruses, Firmware, and the History of Flashcarts.

New Video

While I'm trying to convince my phone to transfer the video to my computer, my wife is taking photos against the new backdrop :)

Sega Venus

On November 30, 2020, Sega released a video celebrating the company's 60th anniversary. It showed the entire console lineup and explained that the systems had been named after planets.

But the most interesting part came afterward. Sega manager Hiroyuki Miyazaki showed a prototype of the Sega Venus — the Japanese-market version of the Sega Nomad.

And just like that, 24 years after the Sega Nomad was released, another piece of the console's history came to light.

GB Interceptor

A very interesting device recently appeared on AliExpress — the GB Interceptor. It's a cartridge that plugs into the console and intercepts the video signal, allowing you to capture it on a computer. Looks extremely interesting. :)

Update: this AliExpress listing is no longer available.

What Is Piracy?

Have you ever thought about the fact that playing pirated games isn't exactly legal? You probably won't be punished just for playing them, but selling a modded console can potentially land you in criminal trouble.

Criminal cases like that are rare, of course, but they do happen. So it's worth being very careful.

Arekanderu, author of a blog on DTF (https://dtf.ru/u/62209-arekanderu), wrote a new article for the site: “What Is Piracy Under Russian Law?”.

I recommend reading it — it covers quite a few legal nuances related to piracy.

GBA SP All-in-One Build

Evgeny made a video about his all-in-one build.

“I made a short video for you about building a custom Game Boy Advance SP inspired by the famous Metroid series. Take a look at how it turned out. Go easy on me — this is my first time editing a video. ))))”

Aftermarket Battery

I tested a battery from AliExpress. Its actual capacity turned out to be roughly a third of the advertised capacity. There is one upside, though: you can take it apart and replace the cell with one with a more suitable capacity.

P.S. What do you think of my almost factory-grade battery testing rig?)

Articles

I wrote an article: What Consoles Did iQue Release?

And there's now an entire section on the history of Nintendo DS flashcarts. It includes four articles about PassMe, FlashMe, WiFiMe, and PassMe2.

P.S. On some Nintendo DS and iQue DS systems, flashing the firmware lets you enable four brightness levels just like on the NDS Lite :)

iQue GBASP Metroid

I couldn't resist and bought one. The rarest limited edition among all mass-produced GBA SP consoles :)

GBA Chobits

Turns out Arekanderu https://dtf.ru/u/62209-arekanderu has a complete-in-box Chobits console :0

Game Boy Advance Chobits edition

The GBA console photo catalog has grown a little more :)

P.S. Does anyone else have any limited editions complete in box? I'd love to expand the catalog :)
